Seven Things About Christmas (Thanks Tawny & Luis)
Thanks to Luis and Tawny, I’ve been tagged again. Since I was just tagged a few months ago, I decided to highlight seven things about Christmas that you may not already know about me. In no particular order, they are:
- I love the movie, Olive the Other Reindeer. Not only is the animation really cool, but it’s also a funny story. Drew Barrymore does a great job as Olive. And if memory serves me correctly, Michael Stipe plays one of the characters as well.
- After dark on Christmas Eve, I love driving down Cranehill Drive (in Lynchburg). It started many years ago, though I couldn’t tell you when exactly. People put luminaries up and down both sides of the street. It’s a beautiful sight to behold! At first, the luminaries were only on Cranehill, but last night they seemed to cover every street in that area. It’s truly breathtaking.
- When I was seven months pregnant, I sang “Breath of Heaven” as a solo at church. The phrase “hold me together” was absolutely my prayer as I faced what would soon become the end of my marriage. To this day, the song makes me cry.
- My Aunt Dora never married. Each year at Christmas, she made all of her nieces and nephews felt ornaments and included two silver dollars in each ornament. As she got older, she switched to personalized brass ornaments. Aunt Dora is no longer living but I remember her fondly throughout the year – especially at Christmas. Those felt ornaments are cherished!
- One of the worst arguments my parents ever had was at Christmas. I was in the 4th grade and I remember it like it was yesterday. When it was all said and done, my beautiful Victorian baby doll dressed all in pink was a great source of comfort to me. I’m writing about that incident as I prepare for an upcoming speaking event.
- Since my childhood home didn’t have a chimney, Santa always came through the front door. It’s a good thing he had a key!
- Thanks to years of watching A Charlie Brown Christmas, I can recite almost all of the Christmas passage from memory.
THAT is what Christmas is all about!
Since our children spent the week before and through Christmas with their other parents this year, we’ll be celebrating Christmas on Saturday morning, 12/27. Merry Christmas!
What are some things about Christmas that others may not know?
