Blacksburg Business Professionals Using LinkedIn
Yesterday I had the privilege of leading a session on networking and using LinkedIn for members of the Montgomery (Blacksburg, VA) Regional Chamber of Commerce. It was great fun to spend time with a varied group of business professionals all interested in learning how to best use what is arguably the most popular professional social networking tool around.
After lunch, we took a step-by-step how-to look at using LinkedIn. Here’s the slidedeck:
Surprisingly, less than 25% of the business professionals in attendance were using Linked with any sort of consistency. I’m pretty sure that percentage will increase based on feedback during and after the session.
Your Advice
What advice would you give to new LinkedIn users? What tips have you discovered and what strategies are you using to help maximize your network’s potential?
And if you were in attendance, leave a comment below to let me know what you liked best and what I could do better next time. Cut and paste your LinkedIn URL (customized or other) into the comment website field so others can connect with you easily! (Remember, easy, quick and nice.)

Hi Cheryl, I really enjoyed your presentation yesterday. I set up my company profile today and found several new connections yesterday and today too. I think it would be nice if connections (and customers/ clients) could leave feedback on a company’s profile. But, it didn’t look like that was a possibility– at least not now. I did find and connect with several of our clients today.

Mandi,
Thanks for your feedback on the presentation yesterday. The closest thing to LI comments, at least for now, is recommendations, and may not accomplish exactly what you’re looking to do. I’ll keep you posted if I hear of anything new.
Kudos on the company page, and on diving in to get more out of your connections!
