My Nightstand Reads

July 16th, 2008

If you’re familiar with MBTI styles, I’m an ENFP. What that means for this post is that I typically read more than one book at a time, something that seems impossible and even ludicrous for someone who is a J, like my husband. That being said, here’s a list of what I’m currently reading:

What’s next on my list:

I keep coming back to read excerpts from:

I’ll be busy for the next few days, reading at the pool and while camping. Here’s my MBTI prayer, “Dear God, please help me keep my mind on one…Look a butterfly…thing at a time! Before I go, let me ask this:

What are you currently reading? What books do you keep coming back to and why? Which have been life changing for you? Leave your comments here.

I have always wanted to learn more about the Myers and Briggs styles. I will research a bit. I looked a bit closer at your reading selections…very nice indeed! What is your feedback for Setting the Table and The Millennium Matrix? I might order those two..I always look forward to your Journey updates. Thanks for sharing!

Mark,

MBTI is a great tool for understanding people. Please Understand Me II is another book I keep coming back to. It’s a great resource (Kiersey-Bates is similar to MBTI) and easy to digest. You may want to try that one.

I do some work with clients in the area of customer service. Setting the Table was given to me by the fine folks at Meriwether-Godsey. I’ll be using that book to do a customized workshop for them later this month.

I kept hearing people talk about Millenium Matrix and finally bought it. It’s an interesting perspective on our progression from story telling to print to broadcast to digital - how it affects society at large and the church in particular.

The book that keeps me coming back year after year is “The Success Principles” by Jack Canfield. It’s like a bunch of business and self-help books all in one, in bite sized chapter chunks.

I happily read 4 to 6 books at a time as well. =)

Finished up Mindset - John Naisbitt and It’s Your Ship by Michael Abrashoff. Just starting Executive Stamina by Marty, Joshua Selman and Back of the Napkin by Dan Roam and Failing Forward by John C. Maxwell. Next up? Effective Executive by Peter Drucker, Winning: The Answers by Jack and Suzy Welch, Competitive Strategy by Michael E. Porter, Execution by Bossidy

Hi friend, nice list, my book aside.

Well, thanks to you, I did a video trailer and it’s up on my web site. First page. http://www.rachelhauck.com.

Casual, homemade, but funny.

Hugs, Rachel

I’m reading “The Last Lecture” by Randy Pausch. Very motivational.

Looks like a nice list you have there. I’ll have to check out a couple of those.

Lance,

Yes, yes, yes - I want to read that one. I watched the lecture on You Tube. A girlfriend of mine was actually on the front row of the audience. Thanks for the reminder!

My husband and I had to do the Strengths Finder for the Assessment Center for church planters in January and really enjoyed it!

This summer I’ve been loving:
The Big Moo (Godin), The Creative Habit (Twlya Tharp), and Everything Must Change (McLaren)… not to mention a ton of reading for our upcoming adoption.

I usually return to my books on creativity. As a creative director, I need to keep myself limber in order to lead and use my skill with clarity and excellence. A lot hangs on my creative agility.
