I’m always intrigued at how the use of social media can benefit a business, non-profit, or ministry related organization. But how about this? Twitter during a live brain surgery. (Note: WITH patient consent.)

Thanks to Dr. Ellen F. Weber for the tweet and post. Check out the ABC News segment here. It’s three minutes worth watching! More than 1900 people followed the surgery, tweeting questions and getting immediate answers.

A snippet of the surgery can be watched here (no pun intended):

Personally, I think it’s fantastic! Medical students across the country, and maybe even around the world, were afforded the opportunity to learn by watching – AND asking questions, real time. What an amazing time in which we live!

What do you think? What other possible uses might you imagine by a Twitter/medicine mashup?

Congratulations to Rose Love Chou for being selected as the winner of the $25 American Express Gift Card. And thanks to all of you for your help with promoting the bookfair/social media experiment.

Now, remember today (Friday the 13th) to buy the stuff and use the code 423129.

Buy the stuff
Need a book, magazine or new CD? Buy it on Friday, March 13th at any Barnes & Noble in the US. Need a cup of joe? Have a lunch meeting? Visit the B&N Café and buy stuff there on Friday, March 13th. Have a hot date Friday March 13th? Start it out at Barnes & Noble and buy stuff. (NOTE: Online and gift card purchases do not apply.)

Use the code
You have to use the code 423129 with your purchase in order for it to apply to the LMS Library promotion. Be sure to tell your cashier to use the code 423129. Say it with me. Use the code 423129. The LMS Code is 423129. Tell the cashier to use the code 423129.

Mr. Kerns will dress up like a girl
Oh, and if Barnes & Noble sells $20,0000 in merchandise using the LMS code, Robert Kerns, Linkhorne Middle School Principal, will dress up like a girl. This is huge. You have to understand. When I talked with Mr. Kerns this afternoon, his response was, “I’ve always said I’d never dress up like a girl. I’ll sleep on the roof. I’ll do anything. But don’t ask me to dress up like a girl.” Sort of like that Gilligan ad.

Repeat after me.
Buy the stuff. Use LMS Code 423129. Mr. Kerns will dress up like a girl. (And kids get books.) It’s easy.
